Conversation translation app renewed as "Hanaso Talk"

Hanaso Talk is a smartphone app for quickly conveying short phrases while traveling, in shops, at stations, hotels, and events. While the former Hanasou! centered on translation from Japanese, this update lets users freely combine any two of the ten supported languages.

The supported languages are Japanese, English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, and French. By switching between "I speak" and "Listen to the other person", the app translates both ways between the chosen pair and displays results in large, easy-to-show text.

Instead of automatic language detection, users explicitly choose their own language and the other person's, which prevents unintended language switching even for short phrases. In standard mode, speech recognition runs on the device and only the recognized text is sent to the server. High-accuracy mode is used only when explicitly selected, and transmitted audio is never stored permanently.
